The Shri LakshmiNarayana Temple in Hejamadi is popular as Mallyera (belonging to Mallya) Mutt. It is one of the five temples constructed by members of the Mahale family of Honavar (later changed to Mallya) who were prominent and influential traders and courtiers with the Keladi Nayak rulers. Some of the other temples they built are:
- The Venkatramana Temple, Gangolli
- The Bete Shree Veera Venkatramana Temple, Honavar
The Hejamadi temple in particular was built by Narayana Mallya sometime in the 17th Century. The main deities here are:
- Lord Lakshmi Narayana
- Veera Vitthala
- Srinivasa
In olden days, it was the only place of worship for the residents in the surrounding areas. It is said that the famed Mruga Bhete – a grand procession on Karthik Punav covers around 20km away from Hejamadi. The temple was renovated in 2003.
